Deputy Commissioner Matt D'Oria was sworn in as Acting Commissioner on Tuesday, January 19. He will be serving as Acting Commissioner pending the appointment of a permanent commissioner. Matt has worked at the Department since 2003 and has served in state government for 23 years.

Appointed as Deputy Commissioner for Senior Services and Health Systems in 2006, Mr. D’Oria has been employed in state government in various capacities for almost 20 years. As Deputy Commissioner, he oversees the areas of Senior Benefits and Utilization Management, Aging and Community Services and Health Facilities Evaluation and Licensing. Prior to this appointment, he served for two years as the Director of Finance for the Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS). Before joining DHSS, he worked in the Department of Human Services, Division of Medical Assistance and Health Services (Medicaid) for 13 years serving as Budget Director, Chief Financial Officer, Deputy Director and Chief of Staff. He began his career in government as an auditor with the Office of Management and Budget. He received a B.A. in Public Administration from The College of New Jersey and a M.B.A. from Rider University.
